Bründlmayer - A Great Long Distance Runner

Bründlmayer - A Great Long Distance Runner in Top Form

The international press holds a special regard for Willi Bründlmayer, who has repeatedly been voted among the world’s great wine producers and one of the 50 most influential personalities in the wine world. Accolades like these only come after decades of excellence, and in two independent evaluations, Austria’s own specialized press has confirmed the exceptional position Bründlmayer holds in the wine world.

Celebrating its own 25th anniversary, the Austrian wine magazine Falstaff has asked both its expert authors and its readers to name the country’s best wineries, and as the only producer Bründlmayer found himself represented in both categories, a favourite with experts and the public alike. Willi Bründlmayer, whose tenure at the head of the Bründlmayer estate spans just about the quarter of a century celebrated by Falstaff, is particularly gratified by this award: “It is a joy and a challenge to strive for quality with all one’s might, particularly if one knows that there are people who appreciate one’s efforts.”

While Bründlmayer’s stewardship of the family estate has been judged an unrivalled success, the last vintage has equally received high accolades. In Austria’s 2000 Best Wines, the new wine guide published by the wine magazine Vinaria, Bründlmayer was again among the small and select group of three-starred producers in Austria, while the authors described the 2004 vintage as “extraordinarily successful”. Particular praise was given to Grüner Veltliner Ried Lamm 2004, Riesling Zöbinger Heiligenstein 2004, the vintage sparkling Sekt Bründlmayer Brut 2002 and Pinot Noir Cécile, proving that Willi Bründlmayer has maintained his exceptional high standards over many decades. – Can it be a quarter of a century already?
