A Rare, Sweet Pleasure
Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Muskateller Beerenauslesen are among our exceptional delicacies.
The Kamptal climate only rarely allows the selection of botrytis grapes for the creation of nobly-sweet Wines. The healthy Waldviertel air ventilates our vineyards and usually prevents the spread of botrytis spores. It is either still too hot and dry or already too cold for them to thrive. Only when warm rains fall around harvest time the resulting fogs will allow the nobly-sweet berries to be created, and we will then harvest by hand, separating out the nobly sweet and the healthy grapes into different boxes directly from the vine.
Nothing is too good for the fermentation of these precious by-products. Our cellar master uses new, small barriques and lets these liquid investments mature for one or two years, before bottling them in small bottles.
It is not the quantity that is important: experts and wine lovers alike are always keen to discover rarities. Even at home, though, these wines are highly prized: our Muskateller Beerenauslese 2002 was elected Langenlois Wine Champion.
