Wine Spectator Top 100

(January 2010)The US Wine Spectator Magazine counts

Grüner Veltliner Berg Vogelsang 2007

within "The 100 most exciting wines of 2009". Willi Bründlmayer is one of Austria's best vintners and his talent shows in this single-vineyard Grüner, made from grapes grown high on the Loiser Mountain, rich with mica and schist. The result is apowerful, racy white with intense mineral notes. Winemaking aims to preserve the fresh zest of Grüner; it's fermented at cool temperatures then racked into large oak casks for a few weeks of aging.

Tasting Note:

A powerful and racy style, with notes of anise, citrus, glazed apricot and spice. Very stony and minerally, with notes of chamomile, on the taut finish. Needs some time in the cellar.
