Wet weather is playing tricks on us

Between the end of October and the beginning of November the wet weather has created difficult harvesting conditions. The high air humidity and morning fogs make it almost impossible to bring in good, dry grapes.

In spite of this, we have been able to havest parts of the most important vineyards. At least some of the harvest is therefore safe, another part is still in the vineyard and presents a great risk.

As long as the noble rot remains moist (we have had a first botrytis infection in the last week of October) it is worthless and has to be cut down. Only when it dries will the affected grapes be usable for the prized Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines. Continuing rains, however, might bleed the aromas from the grapes and destroy part of our harvest.
