Grüner Veltliner Käferberg
2012
92 p. Robert Parkers "The Wine Advocate", May 2014, review by David Schildknecht
A delectable nose of caraway, lima bean, fennel pollen and orange zest in Brundlmayer’s 2012 Gruner Veltliner Kaferberg leads into a polished and infectiously juicy palate in which their flavors are deployed in a matrix of white peach, apple, and rhubarb, with alkaline and stony undertones lending allure if, arguably, of a slightly austere and intellectual sort as opposed to that of sensual enticement. The combination of breadth with buoyancy and of richness with refreshment is quite remarkable. I would look for even greater complexity over the next several years and would plan to follow this beauty through at least 2027.

There is a peppery character to this fabulous wine, both from its aroma and its flavor. That gives both richness and adds to the dense, complex texture. The wine, with its finely textured acidity ,needs age over several years. Drink from 2016.

Delicate toasty, smoky and honey aromas, followed by grapefruit pineapple, and pears, with peppery spicy tines of herbs and fir tree, at the beginning soft and silky, then sappy and powerful, tightly structured, multilayered, with a firm grip and exotic fruit on the palate (pineapples and citrus fruits) appetizing extract sweetness, well-balanced, very good length and a soft , mineral peppery finish, very good aging potential.

Delicately spicy botanical aromas with traces of tobacco, ripe apricots; composed and mellow on the palate with extract sweetness, highly balanced with all its power; a stalwart Veltliner echoed by subtle minerality, with a huge life ahead. (Peter Moser, The Ultimate Austrian Wine Guide)

This is by far the best vintage of Käferberg I´ve tasted. It has the Burgundy profile of GrüVe but it colors inside the lines. Dense, dramatic GrüVe. (Terry Theise Selections/Michael Skurnik Wines, NY)
